Ingredients
With the increasing interest in local food, we are delighted to work with some of Suffolk’s best artisan producers and expert suppliers from around East Anglia.
Here are just a small foodie selection:
Pinney’s of Orford
For some fifty odd years, the Pinney family have been harvesting wonderful shellfish and smoking fish for their famous Butley-Orford Oysterage in the wilds of East Suffolk. Their estuary beds at Butley Creek are rightly prized for their salty fat Gigas oysters and we also particularly love their smoked eel.
Suffolk Farmhouse Cheeses
The Salisbury family have settled their beautiful herd of Guernsey cows into their new farmstead on the edge of Coddenham, near Needham Market. Jason and Katharine have rightly gained a loyal following for their creamy, decadent cheeses, the gouda-like semi-hard Suffolk Gold and the piquant Suffolk Blue, similar to a firm dolcelatte.
Sutton Hoo Chickens
The foodie legacy of the late great Suffolk farmer Charles Nash lives on in the wonderful free range chicken flocks he created at Sutton Hoo, just down the road from the Crown. His wife Belinda and the team are continuing Charlie’s excellent efforts to produce the old fashioned chicken taste of yester-year with the farm’s very happy birds roaming over 20 acre paddocks.
